What does the Bible say about LGBT behavior?

So what does the Bible say about LGBT behavior? The Bible says it’s sin. So let’s look at a few verses.

When discussing LGBT content in children’s shows, the question of “What does the Bible say about LGBT behavior?” often comes up.  So let’s look at a few verses.

In Genesis 1:27-28 we see God’s original plan is man and woman.  Jesus reaffirms that plan in Mark 10:6-9 and Matthew 19:4-6.

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”  Genesis 1:27-28

“But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.’ For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”  Mark 10:6-9

And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”  Matthew 19:4-6

Those verses make it clear that God’s plan is not man with man, woman with woman, or humans with animals.  Additionally, the Bible has many places in both the Old Testament and New Testament that confirm God’s disapproval of this type of behavior.

Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.  Romans 1:24-27

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.  1 Corinthians 6:9-10

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. Nor shall you mate with any animal, to defile yourself with it. Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it. It is perversion.  Leviticus 18:22-23

If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them. If a man marries a woman and her mother, it is wickedness. They shall be burned with fire, both he and they, that there may be no wickedness among you. If a man mates with an animal, he shall surely be put to death, and you shall kill the animal. If a woman approaches any animal and mates with it, you shall kill the woman and the animal. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood is upon them.  Leviticus 20:13-16

In Genesis 1:27-28 (above) we also see that God created us male and female with the intention of procreation; so clearly God does not make us transgender.  Psalms, Jeremiah, Isaiah, and Job all confirm this by describing how God makes us in our mother’s womb.  Additionally, Deuteronomy clearly condemns transgenderism.

For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.  Psalm 139:13-14

Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you;
Before you were born I sanctified you;
I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”  Jeremiah 1:4-5

Thus says the Lord who made you
And formed you from the womb, who will help you:
‘Fear not, O Jacob My servant;
And you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.'  Isaiah 44:2

Did not He who made me in the womb make them?
Did not the same One fashion us in the womb?  Job 31:15

“A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman’s garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the Lord your God."  Deuteronomy 22:5

The LGBT movement is also well known for embracing pride.  The Bible clearly identifies pride as sinful in Proverbs, Mark, and 1 John.

The fear of the Lord is to hate evil;
Pride and arrogance and the evil way
And the perverse mouth I hate.  Proverbs 8:13

"For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”  Mark 7:21-23

Pride goes before destruction,
And a haughty spirit before a fall.  Proverbs 16:18

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.  1 John 2:15-17

However, just because the LGBT community celebrates their sexual sin in the open doesn’t mean other sexual sin is any better.  The Bible is clear that all sexual immorality is sinful.

Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.  1 Corinthians 6:18

Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people.  Ephesians 5:3

So while the sin of LGBT behavior may be more obvious than other sins, we must remember we all have sinned and need Jesus as our savior.

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.  Romans 3:23

“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.”  Romans 10:9-10

And once we are saved, we are called to turn away from those cycles of habitual sin.  For those in the LGBT community, that means you’ll be turning away from that lifestyle and instead towards Jesus.  It may sound hard right now, but that’s why you first come to Jesus; because Jesus guides you out of that lifestyle.

Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God. And you know that Jesus came to take away our sins, and there is no sin in him. Anyone who continues to live in him will not sin. But anyone who keeps on sinning does not know him or understand who he is.

 Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God. So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God.  1 John 3:4-10

The sinful lifestyles people live before being saved often opens them up to demons, so join a church that is familiar with casting out demons as well as discipleship.  I can personally testify that if there is a demon that needs to be cast out, turning away from sin becomes exponentially easier once it’s gone!

These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages.  Mark 16:17

 “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

“Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”  Matthew 18:18-20

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.  Hebrews 10:24-25

So what does the Bible say about LGBT behavior?  The Bible says it’s sin.  And as parents it’s our job to make sure our kids aren’t watching TV shows that encourage sinful LGBT behavior.  Jesus was very serious about those who encourage kids to sin; so we need to be serious about what we allow our children to watch on TV.

“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.  Matthew 18:6
