What's new at Illuminating Shadows? 2026 Update!

Time for an update!  2025 saw a lot of changes for Illuminating Shadows, the biggest of which is how children's movies are reviewed.  In the past movies were given a detailed write up based on a strict set of criteria.  Now the reviews are done as videos on YouTube & Rumble, and the rigid structure is removed.  Additionally, I've been watching the movies in theaters on their opening weekend instead of waiting for them to be available for streaming.  These changes enable parents to quickly get an accurate review of a new movie.  2026 will continue this practice, so expect to see children's movie reviews for new movies like Hoppers, Super Mario Galaxy, and Toy Story 5. 

2025 had a couple video game reviews for games that older children may play, and there's still a few more that I'd like to get to in 2026.  Additionally, my family recently started playing modern board games and I'm really excited to review many of my family's favorites!  Also, in 2025 I made a few videos for parents and Christians; so expect more of these in 2026 too.

Starting in 2025, Illuminating Shadows is on all the major social media platforms.  Subscribe and follow to be notified when a new review is posted, and share so more parents can take advantage of the valuable information!  I hope to update the Illuminating Shadows social media profile pictures and update the website a little bit too, so be on the lookout for that.

Moving forward this website will primarily be used to host things that aren't suitable for videos.  This will include the older written children's movie reviews, as well as a massive update to the 29+ LGBT Kid's Shows list.  This updated list will be a key resource for parents to use when determining which shows are inappropriate for their children.

Personally 2024 and 2025 were huge years for my family!  Some day I'll do a video on it, but for now and to keep it short I'll just say it was full of major good changes and extreme growth in our relationship with Jesus.  This resulted in our standards being raised even higher for movies, so keep this in mind when reading the reviews on the website (which were written before this change in standards).
